It's 6:45am in New York City. Last night I walked back to the hotel alone from dinner at The Atlantic Grill with my daughter Jeanie and her boyfriend Daniel down. I walked down Broadway and across on 53rd here to the New York Hilton Midtown. At 10:30 at night, there were people everywhere. Wednesday must be garbage pick-up day because there were plastic bags of refuse lining the streets the whole way.
6pm, Streaming Media East Conference, New York City. You look back and you try to remember when you first didn't believe in Santa Claus anymore. Sure, there's the spirit of Santa Claus, and that goes on forever, but for the three or four of you and me too, there was a moment in all of our lives in which we had to succumb to the jeers of our peers and admit the inevitable. There is no fat guy who goes all over the world in one night and gives toys to every kid who deserves them.
And so it goes with my visit to the Streaming Media East conference in New York City. As the three or four of you know, we stream live video of my show every morning. And we've been doing it off and on for more than five years. 7:30 am. Just off interstate 94 in Wisconsin.
When it's all said and done and you're sitting there at the pearly gates.... waiting, waiting - "are they gonna let me in or not?"... you might have time to look back at all of the places in your life that you woke up.
And as I do that right now- I'm not at the pearly gates, don't worry - I'm pretty sure in my 54 years I've never woken up in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. There's just no reason to have come here or stop here, and that may explain why the main hotel here is a Best Western. BedtimeIt's 10:15pm and time for bed. Sometimes before Alexis and I head off to dreamland I sit at the end of the bed and play my guitar. Neil Young, Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead head the list. Tonight, I'm trying to learn "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" by Bob Dylan. As I listen to different versions of this classic on youtube... I realize that it always comes back to the Grateful Dead.
