9:52pm. Friday.
Even local radio guys have to take a short break. Today Alexis and I snuck out late afternoon for a movie, "Southpaw" with Jake Gylenhall and Forest Whitaker. Pretty good. I almost cried and Alexis certainly did. She didn't cry this morning on the air, though. Alexis comes on with me Fridays and we talk about crap going on around the Calumet Region. We also talk a little about stuff going on in our own lives and that makes us like a real Region couple and I suppose that brings us closer to some.. and then there are others who wanna puke up their recently-devoured breakfasts. Hammond mayor Tom McDermott also came on with me this morning, and he said the most interesting thing - that he didn't want to agree to guarantee to raise $270,000 to bring Hillary Clinton to Hammond. McDermott said that last time around in 2008 it was all about getting to know Tom McDermott for the votes. This time, it's all about the money.
10:44pm, Wednesday night. The balance of power has shifted. And it has shifted really quickly.
From time to time, Alexis and I go to fundraisers or parties for Republican congressman Todd Rokita. He's from Munster and he went to high school with my little sister Jennifer who's nine years younger than me, and somehow we've kinda hit it off with Todd over the years so we get invited to his shindigs when he comes to town. We're in radio, remember, so it's not like we have a ton of dough to write big checks like most of the old white guys who come to these things. But we do own the local radio station and to some people that counts for something.
1pm on Tuesday.
It's not necessarily sunny outside, although according to the WJOB weather forecast, it's supposed to be. Rode the bike to work amidst a glorious sunrise and no geese in the way. After the show, rode the bike to WalMart and bought a bike lock and a baseball mitt (don't ask why, on sale) and then rode bike to work out at Planet Fitness. That's where the manager waved me down. Hey, I gotta put in a bike rack. Who would I talk to about that? Where would I even start?
5am Monday morning.
Late July morning radio. What's that like? Finally we might reach the 90s for several days in a row. Theme. Hot talk radio. Cool down with JED in the morning. At least now we're in the temporary Purdue facilities. At the old place, the air conditioning doesn't work well enough to cool the studio down when the temp gets over 90. That would be hot, stuffy late July radio. Today shouldn't be that. It should reasonably cool late July radio, with a twist of youth baseball and me and Baker laughing about stupid stuff and then talk about a beer-fest and Pierogi Fest and money equality. All radio is good, just some is better than others. |
