But a curious thing happened on the way to the Greek Theater. I discovered Herb Caen.
Herb basically walked around San Francisco and wrote about that. It was great. Sure, he could write using a lot of ellipses.... but it wasn't necessarily his prose that possessed me and thousands of others.
It was his life. His job was to do stuff and then chronicle it. A lot of times as you read it you kinda felt you were there on the wharf at a bar next to Boz Scaggs eating some steamed oysters. Or you were at a city council meeting near the back where it smelled like someone just polished their shoes.
To some extent, with this whole live radio thing and, now, this live video thing... I'm recreating the search to live the life of Herb Caen. Live video, you see, is the Next Big Thing. I know that's dangerous to say... but I truly believe it. And instead of going around the wharf so you could tell about it in the paper the next day, you tell your story right now, in video. It's Herb Caen's life speeded up to 78. You'll see.
For now, I'm gonna take a shower and then drive the Fusion to work. There's a rhythm here. In the winter, I ride my bike to work a lot and I play JEDgolf. In the summer, I drive the car to work and don't play much JEDgolf at all. This is just the rhythm that comes naturally.
What's on the show today?... How about some talk about
1. they found the two-year-old's body who was eaten by an alligator at Disney World.
2. Donald Trump. There's always stuff to say about Donald Trump.
That's about as far as I can get right now. It's feeling cold... I'm naked.... floating in water... looking for land... bobbing up and down... sinking... kicking... drowning. Yikes.
