Are you surprised by this?
WGN's Steve Cochran was highest of Chicago-only hosts at #50.
Steve Dahl (WLS) - #57
Roe Conn (WGN) - #74
Bill Leff and Wendy Snyder (WGN) - #81
By accident I ran across discussion of Talkers Magazine's "Heavy Hundred" list. This is a list of who's the real who in talk radio across America. And the highest anyone ranked in Chicago is #50.
Are you surprised by this? WGN's Steve Cochran was highest of Chicago-only hosts at #50. Steve Dahl (WLS) - #57 Roe Conn (WGN) - #74 Bill Leff and Wendy Snyder (WGN) - #81 Friday night. 11pm.It has been a while since you and I talked and that's my fault. I've allowed My American, Radio Life to fill up with so many events that it's
1. making me do bad morning radio shows 2. keeping me from blogging to the three or four of you. 10:53pm on a Friday eveningMy day started about 4:30am when I woke up to my phone beeping and I hit it once and then again and again. It went off and on until 5am and by 5:32 I was standing in the dark talking on the radio. At that hour, truck after truck barrels down Indianapolis Boulevard. I can watch it all through the many windows at the Purdue Calumet Commercialization and Manufacturing Excellence Center. If I said it wasn't beautiful, I'd be lying.
5:02pm on a Tuesday evening.Tuesdays really are the biggest endurance test for me in radio. I talk from 5:30 to 10am and afterwards I can never figure out why I can't do anything really productive. After a while you just gotta give in to the lack of focus and take a long lunch and a nap.
That's what I did today after the show. Hung around for a couple hours fooling with the photos and notes below and ordering some equipment from BSW in Washington or Portland or wherever they are. We order pretty much from BSW and also Sweetwater, which is here in Indiana, across the state in Fort Wayne. They're both solid. Rick at BSW and Jason at Sweetwater now know our business up and down and with a simple phone call I can have someone on the other end who knows more about sound and transmitters and isocouplers and mic and line levels than I do. That's what you want. |
I run radio stations and a streaming video network in Hammond, Ind., and write this blog.
