Paper day

​952am in the wjob calpress newsroom, aug 09 05

...we're a weekly so we put the paper together on tuesday and send it to the printer via email at 5pm. tuesday's usually nuts in this dorm-room sized newsroom with radio people paulla, erin, jen, gen and tony and newspaper people joe, colleen, laura, poindexter and me. that's a lotta young journalists hunting around for news and making pages and looking for ad graphics and you get the picture.

...speaking of media. never thought you'd hear me say this but take a look at the front page of today's times. expose on jean shepherd getting inducted into the national radio hall of fame. shepherd of jean shepherd center fame in hammond actually got his start here at wjob in good old hohman, er, hammond, indiana.
...not one word of this 80-year-old radio station anywhere in that 1000-word article.
...why? you ask.
...if you gotta ask why, then you wouldn't understand anyhows. i used to write for those guys and hang out in the sports department and i know how it works over there. think about it. the times has had the calumet region to itself for more than a decade. here we come last year with this big plan to give you guys a true local media.
...sit back and enjoy the entertainment. it hasn't even started to get interesting.
...cal bellamy put his name in for the rda appointment from the county. you'd think he'd be a shoe-in because he is after all one of the most trusted people in lake county.
...but cal hears there's gonna be another name thrown into the hat today or tomorow and that person might even be more qualified.
...no kidding.
